introducing the backwards/reverse heels! [10 Jan 2008|05:52pm]

i know many of you have already seen these, but i am so excited about the new marc jacobs heels. i think they were first shown in the marc jacobs new york fashion show back in september, but i just saw them in the victoria beckham issue of elle .  they're so funky and different and i have no idea how comfortable they would be, let alone how one would walk in them, but i can't wait for stores to have them so i could try them on!

there is no turning back [13 Nov 2007|11:41pm]
recently i've been finding myself hoping to turn back the hands of the clock. wishing to start over. getting a second chance. but time doesn't stop. life doesn't stop-for anyone. do you ever wake up and seriously think where the hell has the time gone? one second you were there, and now you're (all the way) over here, but over here isn't where you want to be? did you ever expect yourself to be where you are at today?

CAL is #2!!! [07 Oct 2007|03:31pm]
living with three other boys have opened my eyes to the brutal sport of football.  after saturday college football, i witnessed one of the biggest upsets in college football history: stanford (unranked) defeated usc (#2) 24-23! normally i wouldn't really care, but after seeing how intense the game was, i guess it's a big deal.

too bad florida couldn't have beatened lsu, otherwise cal could have moved up to #1.

i think this is the highest cal has been in a long time. let's just hope we go undefeated.

is it august already? [09 Aug 2007|11:48am]
where does the time go?

so tomorrow will be my last official day interning at the law firm.  i can't say it was an exciting experience, but i do feel that i've learned a lot (or as much as i can given no legal background).  researching court cases, meeting with clients, writing letters to attorneys, summarizing court depositions, and editing numerous contracts and agreements have all helped me in some way.  coming into the internship, i thought i would pursue corporate law with no intention of becoming a litigator, but now, i don't think i will be ruling out other fields of law and will definitely look into litigation.

summer is winding down and sooner than later, school will once again be in session (at least for all the semester kids).  once fall semester begins, we will officially be college juniors.  half of our college years is already over. done with. finished.  this realization came to me as i was helping my cousin list out all of the necessities she will be needing for her freshman year in the dorms (and btw, she will also join the cal family. woot woot).  as she sets out her own college path, we juniors will be walking down ours.  the past two years have affected all of us in ways we probably can't see or feel now, but all of this is meant to matter somewhere down the road.

i'm not sure whether to be excited about this next semester or dread it.  some pros include me being a junior, living the apartment life with my new roommates, being a declared ps major, having more friends who will have cars now =) , and finally settling into berkeley.  however, some cons include me being a junior, not getting into some of the classes i wanted, having to deal with a messed up schedule due to a crappy registration appointment time, having to cook, missing friends who won't be coming back and those living farther away, and only having two years left at berkeley (which is also a hopefully having only two years left). btw, if i haven't said it before, it's been confirmed this summer that i will be able to study abroad for the spring semester in 2008.  but wow, the paperwork is a bitch.  so many of my friends are abroad right now in england, japan, hong kong, and south africa, and i hope i can have as much fun as they have when i go.

this summer has been one of my better summers to date.  those of you who know me well know that i love (or not so much love as me feeling compelled) to make lists of things to do.  and this summer, i've been able to cross off many of my listed items to buy, things to do, places to go, and people to see.  and crossing things off is one of the best damn feelings in the whole wide world.

on a side note, on sunday, august 5, my cousin gave birth to a baby girl!  i'm so excited to see my little niece!

it's been fun and relaxing and i really don't want to leave for school, but i guess that's how the world works.

see you all in a bit.

Mexican-made Pulparindo candy is recalled

WASHINGTON, July 24 (UPI) -- U.S. and California health officials urged consumers not to eat imported Mexican De La Rosa Pulparindo candy because of possible lead contamination.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said tests conducted by the California Department of Public Health found the candy contained high levels of lead that could cause health problems, particularly in infants, young children and pregnant women.

"Lead is toxic to humans, especially infants, young children and developing fetuses and can result in learning disabilities and behavioral disorders that could last a lifetime," said California Health Director Dr. Mark Horton said.

De la Rosa Pulparindo is a tamarind pulp candy packaged in 10-ounce boxes that contain individually wrapped candies. The boxes and the candy wrappings are bright red in color with the word "Pulparindo" printed in black letters.

California tests indicated the candy contained between 0.12 and 0.18 parts per million of lead. California considers foods with lead levels in excess of 0.1 ppm adulterated.

Dul-Mex Guadalajara Inc. of Hayward, Calif., the candy distributor, has initiated a voluntary recall of the product, the FDA said.

All good things must come to an end. [20 Jul 2007|01:34pm]
Tonight at midnight, the seventh and FINAL Harry Potter book will finally be on bookshelves everywhere for sale! Anyone else as excited as I am? Who else pre-ordered their copy or copies and will be at the midnight magic party?

It's also kind of sad that the series is ending because it's been like 10 years of my life. We all grew up with these books.  But, I hear (from "leaks," rumors, J.K Rowling, and a certain NY Times Review) that the seventh book is the best one in the series, which is a good sign.

Aaahhh!!! In almost 10 hours, the book will finally be here! Can't wait!

guess who i saw yesterday... [09 Jul 2007|10:44am]
so i've been back in the heights for about a week and a half now and i love being home.  i've been meeting up with friends, going places, trying different restaurants, and just soaking in the socal sun (i think i'm actually getting a little darker, which is new for me).

however, things did not go very smoothly when i arrived home.  i almost did not make it back to ontario on time- since the oakland airport was so packed, i almost missed my flight waiting in lines after lines.  but once i got to ontario, i found out, after about an hour of waiting, that my luggage had not made it back.  i had to wait until late evening for the airline to deliver my stuff.

on my first few days back, i went to sleep after sunrise and woke up after sunset.  it felt nice not to have to do anything for a few days.  got to see an advance screening of transformers last monday.  awesome movie.  go watch it.  4th of july was fun too.  had a yummy bbq with friends and watched some neighbors get in some trouble with the cops for using illegal fireworks.  started my internship at the law firm last thursday and i can now honestly say that i don't know shit about the legal field.  i think i'm irritating my boss for being so slow with research stuff and projects.  but hopefully this is normal and i'll learn on the way.  memo to self: need to buy more "work clothes."

and oh yeah, i saw the harry potter cast yesterday in hollywood & highland!  i just happened to be there with daniel and kaya and saw all the fancy-smancy people rolling out the red carpet, camera, and lights.  the insider, et, extra, and e were all there, including staff from the wb and a whole lotta reporters and paparazzi!  it was freaking hot and people smell when pushed right against you.  i think i might have suffered a mild or mini heat stroke.  but after an hour and a half of waiting, i was able to be thisclose to rupert grint, emma watson, and daniel radcliffe.  extra's station was right next to where i was standing, so i was able to see them being interviewed and be on camera.  exciting, i know!  steven cojocaru was there too working for the insider.  i think he got a bit pudgier.  imelda staunton, who plays professor dolores umbridge, was there also.  some of the cast members from heroes was there too, including hiro and that guy who plays the cop who can read minds.  there were probably more people, but i couldn't stand the heat anymore so i left before the premiere was over.  definitely gonna see the movie when it comes out midnight on tuesday. =D

i'll try to post pictures later.

there's a first time for everything [10 Jun 2007|09:49pm]
i've finally moved into my permanent apartment at the mark twain condominiums! (well, what will be my apartment for the next semester anyway). i love it. i just love the (summer) apartment life. i think i've been eating healthier lately just cuz me and my roomate faye don't want to spend too much time cooking an extravagent meal (and by extravagent, i mean stuff with meat and lots of flavor). been eating lots of veggies and soup. our other roomate heather just came back from indiana and it's been fun.

went to sacramento yesterday for the first time and the weather was so nice. sunny, but not too hot. then faye and i went wakeboarding and tubing for the first time! i never ever thought i would ever try wakeboarding, but due to peer pressure, i did and it was so much fun! we got into faye's friend's huge boat on the sacramento river, which was also another first for me. the lake ride was just awesome. i swallowed lots of water and finally got myself a little tan. definitely gonna do that again sometime soon! pictures on facebook.

3 more weeks of summer school left.

summer update [29 May 2007|12:29am]
so it's been awhile again since i've last written in here.

nothing much has happened so far. finals ended about over a week ago and i'm still up in berkeley taking summer school. i wont be able to go home until the very end of june. being here in the summer makes me feel so out of place since the number of people here is very small in comparison to the amount during the school year. at night, the streets are so dead and quiet, and the only people out and about are the bums, who seemed to have taken over the city so it is now actually quite scary to go out at night. i missed my first day of summer school this past monday when i overslept. luckily, the professor didn't drop me. class is ok, but i find it very difficult to stay on task. feeling very lazy mostly and can't seem to stop watching tv. i've been so deprived of cable that whenever i get the chance, which is usually, i sit my lazy butt right in front of the tube and watch rachael ray cook something up in 30 minutes. this past week i had to learn how to cook me some real food. mom was up here last weekend and helped me buy some veggies from 99 ranch. dad will be up here next weekend to help me move into my real apartment on college and parker. i might get me some new ikea furniture. yay. saw pirates of the caribbean 3 on thursday and *SPOILERS* was confused as fuck throughout the whole movie. it was decently done, but half the time i couldn't understand their accents or the storyline. how many ships were there? but the movie was still worth it. it's been awhile since i've last seen my orly. oh gosh. he was just as hot as ever. but the relationship between him and keira was also undeveloped. they have you thinking she doesnt like him throughout the film because she likes jack sparrow, but then at the end her and will turner have this whole awkward knee caressing scene. anyway, orlando's transformation into a real pirate and captain of the flying dutchmen made up for the many disappointments in the film. he was smoking hot and oozing sexiness all over times ten. man, i love you orly, i really do. *SPOILERS end* went to san jose/cupertino/fremont yesterday to visit a friend and then we all went to stanford for a visit and to meet up with another friend. the school is pretty nice and peaceful. reminded me initially of the san gabriel missions. we decided that stanford is a compilation of college campuses from csu northridge, ucsd, uci, ucla, usc, and the claremont colleges. on a interesting note, as my friends and i were leaving the campus at night we noticed that someone (most likely a cal fan/student/alumni) had imprinted the CAL logo onto the grassy field right outside the stanford campus. it was pretty cool and about 20 feet in length. no one was around so we tried taking pictures, but since it was dark, the pictures didn't really turn up too well. wonder if the vandalism went into the school's paper the next day.

my memorial day wasn't very eventful. woke up, ate junk food, read some stuff for class, slept, read some more, dinner, ice cream, celebrity gossip, lj, and then some more reading, then sleep.

how's everyone summer going? hope the bbq was fun guys. see ya'll soon!

More Orly! [16 Apr 2007|02:35pm]
*Again, taken from PerezHilton*

Orly Bloom is on the cover of the new Details magazine.

Here's a preview at what the movie hearttthrob has to say:

On his filming two trilogies back-to-back:
"I've been white-knuckling it for so long. Between the first Lord of the Rings and this [Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End], I've been going nonstop. I would come off one movie and straightaway start the next picture. I wasn't even really thinking about it, I was letting the machinery sort of run me. So now, on a personal level, I just want some time and space from everything, from all that; from the environment and the phone and the communication."

On turning 30 in January and for the first time in a decade having nothing to do:
"Look, it all felt important, too important, but now I'm in a position to--look, I'm trying not to take myself so seriously, and in not taking myself so seriously, I think I'll be more serious."

On learning at 13 that his dad was not his biological father:
"Think about that. Think about finding out when you're 13 that your dad is not your dad. It's like, okay, take it on the chin and keep going. No choice, really."

On being told by doctors at 21 that he might never walk again:
"For four days I was thinking this was it, that I would be living my life in a wheelchair, and then I thought, no, and I knew I would walk. I just knew."

On being famous:
"There's all this noise that happens. I was 22 when I got The Lord of the Rings. Nobody tells you what it is like to be famous--there's no guidebook, you know what I mean?"

On his career:
"I have the patience to trust my own journey. Life is going to unfold as it should because life always does. If I'm true to myself, then all the rest is like, fuck it, man."

On being a Buddhist:
"The philosophy that I've embraced isn't about sitting under a tree and studying my navel, it's about studying what is going on in my daily life and using that as fuel to go and live a bigger life. When your girlfriend dumps you, when the bill comes through the door, and your mom calls you and tells you she can't handle the stuff in her life--that's hell, but that's just one world. If you are aware of what is going on, then you can grow and use that hunger, that fear."

On spending three weeks aboard a Norwegian icebreaker bound for Antarctica:
"I felt isolated and vulnerable and I just had all this time to think. I just had time to read and think and I figured out that this moment, now, is when I can use everything that I've done to my advantage, to choose a great project, to do something great and take a risk. I'm looking around and going, I cannot fucking believe how lucky I've been--Pirates has afforded me the luxury of choice, and with those choices comes responsibility but also freedom. I can figure out exactly what I want to do."

On the downside of being in Pirates of the Caribbean:
"There really is no downside, I've got to tell you. It's put me in a position where I can wait and see what happens and now figure out what I really want to do."

I didn't know he was Buddhist!

Still in love... [10 Apr 2007|12:21pm]
*Taken from Perezhilton*

Actor and budding environmental activist Orlando Bloom sat down for a chat with Elle magazine for their May "Green Issue" and PerezHilton.com has an exclusive preview of the interview!

On his career: "
I'm not doing any more trilogies....I don't think there is anyone who would not have done the movies I did. But going back-to-back without time to digest the process and immerse yourself in the next [was] a challenge."

On spending three weeks sailing in Antarctica:
"It was the real pirate ship. The boat was an old Norwegian ice breaker now used for scientific research. I slept in a bunk and did the washing up and shared a toilet with, like, 27 other guys. It was an amazing experience."

On being considered a sex symbol:
"A friend explained it to me in a way that helped. He said there's a window in every girl's life where they kind of attach to somebody for a month. And if you're that person for a month, then just enjoy it. And I was like, 'Okay, cool!'"

On his career:
"My profile went so high so fast that everything I was doing had much more attention on it than it would have otherwise. So there's much more focus on the mistakes that everyone makes as they go through their career."

On dating in Hollywood:
"You can't date if you're famous. [...] It's like you travel so much and it feels like the options are endless. People think getting a new partner is like getting a new car."

On maintaining privacy as an actor:
"I was talking to Johnny [Depp] on the set one time. I said, 'Can you believe they pay you this much money to do a job you love?' And he said, 'Privacy becomes really expensive.' It's true."

Oh gosh, what a guy.

Reign Over Me special screening tonight! [13 Mar 2007|09:31pm]
I am so jealous of all my friends in LA because they have easier access to movie premieres and a better chance of seeing celebrities (I know, sad, but just spotting a celeb will make my day).  But today there was a special screening of "Reign Over Me," at Shattuck Cinemas in old-town Berkeley and although I couldn't watch the film and do the whole Q & A thing, I was still able to see ADAM SANDLER and DON CHEADLE out on the red carpet!!!  They were thisclose to muah!  They were really calm, but nice enough to come out and take a few pictures with some lucky people and then they went back in to watch their film with the writer/director Mike Binder.

hehe.  I'm one happy camper. =D
